Themed saunas
Finnish at 90°, Himalayan salt at 60° and one with herbs from the meadows around.
At 1,400 m, in the heart of the mountains
A four-star retreat at the edge of the forest: rooms facing the ridge, a spa with a heated pool and a kitchen that cooks what grows around it.
The house stands at the end of the road, where the tarmac ends and the fir forest begins. The rooms have tall windows facing the ridge, the spa descends two levels to the heated pool, and the restaurant cooks by the season, with what the sheepfolds and the gardens in the valley bring.
Whether you come for the trails, for a week of rest or for a dinner by mountain light, every detail is thought through so you need not think about it.
Six types, from the double room with a balcony to the two-bedroom apartment — all with windows facing the ridge.
Saunas, a steam bath, a heated indoor pool and a terrace with an open-air jacuzzi. The spa descends two levels, each with a view of the forest.
Finnish at 90°, Himalayan salt at 60° and one with herbs from the meadows around.
Warm mosaic, low light and eucalyptus steam — ten minutes, then the cold shower.
Indoors, 28°, with glass walls facing the firs. Open in every season, with children until 6 pm.
On the upper terrace, water at 38° and snow on the railing in winter. The most photographed spot in the house.
Relaxing, therapeutic, with hot stones or fir oils. By appointment, 50 or 80 minutes.
Heated loungers, herbal tea, silence asked for and kept. Where every circuit ends.
A kitchen that starts from what is around it — cheeses from the sheepfolds in the valley, trout from the river below the forest, mushrooms and berries in season — and cooks them with today’s technique, without hiding their taste.
A generous breakfast until 11, light lunches on the terrace, four-course dinners by candlelight. The upstairs bar stays open until the last guest leaves.
Three marked trails leave from the hotel car park: a one-hour one for children and grandparents, a full-day one to the ridge and one for those who want to watch the sunrise from the top. In winter the ski slope is ten minutes away by car, and the skis stay in the heated room on the ground floor.
We came for two nights and stayed four. The pool with the forest in front, in the morning, when no one is there — I do not know how else to describe it.
With two small children we were wary of a “spa hotel”. There was a playroom, a children’s menu and people who smiled at every bit of noise.
The four-course dinner was better than at big-name restaurants in the city. And the trout really is from the river below — I asked the chef.
